I, too, would like fantastic hair.
The Fantastic Sam's project with Digital Bungalow came on the proverbial coattails of the VoIP project. Fantastic Sam's is, to quickly define, a salon business/franchise, their model is to provide a high-end salon experience that is on the SuperCuts price point. Their website, previous to contracting Digital Bungalow to rework it, looked like it was built quite a while ago (pre-2010, roughly); It was in dire need of updating and reworking.
By this project, I began to adopt the research methods that Digital Bungalow was using internally (competitive analysis, overall site mapping to rethink and reorganize the information architecture, usability audits of existing sites, etc…) into my own processes. For Fantastic Sam's, I had conducted a usability audit and competitive analysis of their site and their competition before touching Omnigraffle and Axure. These additional, pre-wireframe, measures to help justify UX and design decisions definitely helped in "selling" the updates and changes we wanted to make for Fantastic Sam's - even before they got to see the visual re-design of their website.
Overall, this particular project with Digital Bungalow gave more insight into how to approach a project such as this. How to be more calculated and thoughtful, while still being creative and forward thinking in the UX of a website. It's a bit like having Captain Kirk, Spock, and Doctor McCoy in your mind all at once - calculated and logical, visceral and feeling, and resolute and measuring all of the options before taking the best course.
